The Pilgrim's Path

For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. (Romans 7:18-19)

Does Paul’s struggle sound like your autobiography? We are commanded by the word of God to pursue righteousness, holiness, and sanctification. The apostle Peter exhorts us: “Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul.” (1 Peter 2:11) Yet, so often we find ourselves lacking and echo Paul’s lament about our war against sin. The word of God announces God’s chosen way for sanctification and spiritual growth: But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. (Galatians 5:16)

In this The Pilgrim’s Path, pastor and teacher Ryan Habbena, unpacks the biblical answer to how specifically we are called to walk by the Spirit in order to put to deeds of the flesh to death, and live lives honoring to the One who saved us.
